Together towards a more sustainable future

Do you want to help shape the future of mobility? From day one, you’ll be at the heart of groundbreaking mobility innovations driving sustainable transportation—from the perfect routing algorithm for autonomous shuttles to data-driven mobility analysis.
At ioki, you’ll get the space and trust to contribute right away and take on responsibility—all for one reason: to connect people and help shape the future of public transport. For the mobility of tomorrow, we assemble agile teams of leading minds in their fields. Become part of ioki, collaborate with the best talents and industry leaders, learn from them, and grow professionally.
We’re currently looking for you as a Head of Backend Engineering - Platform Services (f/m/d) to join our team in Frankfurt am Main.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • You lead engineering teams of 5+ people who develop innovative web applications for the mobility market of tomorrow. You take on a leadership role while remaining deeply grounded in technology, architecture, and hands-on implementation.
  • You work closely with other engineering leads and the VP of Engineering to develop and successfully execute a shared technical vision for ioki. As part of the leadership team within Technology & Engineering, you actively contribute to setting the strategic direction.
  • You take ownership of existing and future products in the ioki portfolio. You bring experience with multi-product platform architecture and confidently drive even complex deep integrations with third-party systems.
  • Development teams at ioki operate with a high degree of autonomy — you create the conditions that make this possible. You manage cross-team processes and interfaces, enabling efficient, seamless collaboration.
  • We have high standards in software development. You help teams uphold these standards and bring enough experience to assess them competently.
  • You make well-informed technical decisions on architecture and implementation together with your team. You maintain and improve software development standards, tools, and processes, and foster your team's continuous growth in these areas.
  • You serve as the central point of contact for stakeholders outside the dev teams and work closely with the teams to take the continuous improvement of the apps to the next level through frequent releases.
  • You are responsible for the development of your team — both in terms of individually supporting team members and making staffing decisions as the team grows. Helping others grow as developers and as people is something you genuinely care about.

Your profile

  • You have many years of deep experience with Ruby on Rails and related technologies and concepts (Postgres, Redis, JavaScript, REST APIs, Docker, Git, and others), and have independently planned and delivered complex Rails projects from start to finish.
  • You have several years of proven leadership experience in agile development teams of at least 5 people, and have demonstrated that you can lead teams to peak performance — both professionally and personally.
  • You have a genuine enthusiasm for and proven experience in building, maintaining, and evolving complex web applications.
  • You know what it takes to build maintainable, stable, and well-tested systems — and you can inspire others to care about this too.
  • You actively shape the work around you, bring organizational talent, and create an environment of trust in which your team and you can grow together.
  • You work independently, in a goal- and results-oriented way, take ownership, and consistently hold yourself to a high standard of quality.
  • You have business-fluent English and German skills, both written and spoken — in our international team, English is the company language.

Why us?

We believe your best work happens when you have flexibility, great tools, and a supportive environment.
  • Flexibility & Autonomy: Choose your core hours and decide where you work best — predominantly from home, our modern office, or a mix of both.
  • Comprehensive Mobility Benefits:
    • A fully covered public transport pass (Deutschland Ticket, Jobticket, or BahnCard 100).
    • Corporate bike leasing program.
  • Wellbeing & Lifestyle Budget: Receive a €50 monthly tax-free allowance to spend as you like—convert it into gym memberships (Wellpass/GymPass), streaming services (Netflix, etc.), or spend it on everyday expenses like groceries.

  • Plan for Tomorrow: Build your future with our company pension plan, to which we contribute on your behalf.
